Wow, this just made my entire year guys! I am so proud to be a member of PFRE. Thank you very much to the judges and the entire PFRE community for voting me as the Videographer of the Year 2020! It’s humbling to receive this recognition amongst a community filled with so many talented individuals.
There's so much to say about 2020, and so much has happened. With my business, I have been very fortunate to have had one of the best years to date, having the opportunity to shoot some spectacular properties for some of the most recognized real estate professionals here in Toronto, Canada. I’m extremely grateful and appreciative that they continue to trust me to deliver for them and their clients.
I was very lucky this year to not have been affected negatively by all that transpired. All in all, it was a very smooth year, and while the COVID-19 pandemic challenged me to maneuver around it, everyone that I had the pleasure of working with was so accommodating and cooperative while I all navigated this complicated situation.
This year, I was also lucky enough to be invited by Brandon to speak at the PFRE 2020 virtual conference, where my session covered “Getting Started With Real Estate Video”. I hope those who attended all had a chance to view my talk and were able to get some value from it. For anyone just starting out, my advice would simply be to not get hung up on the gear and equipment you're using. You don’t need the best and most expensive gear to get started. If you have a camera that shoots video, just start by filming your own house, editing it to music. Two important things to keep in mind are: 1. Fully understand how to use your camera efficiently which will become muscle memory allowing you to work fast and efficiently. Focus on mastering your exposure for any given interior room. 2. Learn how to compose your shots for real estate video the best you can, a simple straight-on symmetrical one-point perspective shot in video can be very dynamic if the room is staged for that type of shot. Following the rule of thirds for composition can also prove to be one of the most useful and easiest techniques to compose in any room.
I should also mention that I am producing a full length course on “How To Shoot Real Estate Video” which will be available in Q1 of 2021.
