As real estate photographers, you'll want a sleek and ergonomically made bag to store gear. Think Tank has created another practical camera bag tailored for photographers. Check out this Think Tank SpeedTop 15 camera bag review and see how this can be the next perfect bag for your real estate photography gear.

Think Tank SpeedTop 15 Camera Bag Review

With a crossbody design and magnetic top lid, the Think Tank SpeedTop 15 Camera Bag provides quick access to your shooting gear as you move across rooms, especially those with small spaces. If you're looking for a small bag with carefully thought-out features, then this bag is the perfect accessory for you.

The brand is known for its well-constructed bags that fulfill the needs of photographers, whether you're a newbie or a pro. After testing out the SpeedTop 15, I can see that this bag's versatility will be an advantage for real estate photographers.

Key Features

At a glance, you'll notice that the SpeedTop 15 combines aspects of a sling and a shoulder bag. Hidden inside is a range of features that make bringing a camera and a few accessories convenient for your real estate shoots.

Magnetic Closure

The magnetic lid sets the SpeedTop 15 apart from other camera bags. The bag lid opens away from the body, giving you wider access to your gear. Consequently, you don't end up fumbling trying to get your equipment even when you're inside a small bathroom.

The bag uses neodymium magnets to close the lid securely while providing quick access inside. The neodymium magnets have a strong yet forgiving pull. Even if you quickly open and close the bag, there's no sound or resistance from the lid.

This is much more convenient than the regular zippered or buckled bags since you won't need to put your camera down or use both of your hands just to open it. Compared to bags with buckles and straps, this bag lets you leave the lid open without worrying about your gear falling over.

Shoulder Strap

Another benefit of using the SpeedTop 15 bag is that the straps fit nicely over the shoulders. You can easily slide it to wear as a sling or shoulder bag.

Although the straps aren't that wide, the bag makes up by having well-padded straps. This extra cushion makes it more comfortable to wear the camera bag, especially when you need to position it slightly higher.

The adjustment buckle is quite difficult to get on and off at first. It won't be much of a dealbreaker once you find the right length and don't have to use the buckle again.

Pockets and Dividers

The interior has little space compared to camera bags for traveling. However, there are dividers and pockets that keep your equipment organized.

  • Dividers: The interior consists of removable and adjustable dividers to protect your equipment against scratches.
  • Mesh pockets: The internal mesh pockets can house small items such as memory cards for SLRs, batteries, lens filters, and flash triggers.
  • Side pockets: As a bonus, the SpeedTop 15 has expandable side pockets on both sides. This is perfect for conveniently pulling out your battery chargers, camera harness, or rain cover.

Hip Padding and Belt Carry System

Compared to typical camera bags, the SpeedTop 15 has a padded rear panel and belt that lets you wear the bag around the waist. This is ideal for real estate photographers who prefer wearing bags on the front or the side for quick camera access.

Even if you have a heavier lens or flash, you can reposition the shoulder strap to help carry the weight.

Material

The problem with bags is that they are prone to wear and tear. This is particularly true when you normally bring yours to exterior, architecture, or landscape shoots, where you expose yourself to environmental elements such as rain and dust.

The bag's interior features dual-density foam to protect your gear against force. Meanwhile, the exterior of the SpeedTop 15 consists of Cordura, which is an abrasion-resistant fabric known for its tough yet comfortable properties.

The Cordura fabric adds a protective layer to extend the bag's life and appearance. This high-tenacity woven fabric is also commonly used in military and sports clothing. This means that the bag is designed for outdoor use.

What Fits Inside?

The internal dimensions are 11 inches long, 3.9 inches wide, and 7.9 inches tall. One of the disadvantages of this bag is that it's pretty small. However, it's enough for basic shooting gear.

Based on my tests, I was able to put this gear inside the SpeedTop 15 without making the bag feel heavy or look bulky.

  • A mirrorless camera like the Sony A7 series or a standard DSLR like the Nikon D780.
  • Two lenses like a 24-70mm or 85mm (if there's no external flash)
  • External flash (if there's only one lens)
  • A few batteries and memory cards in the pockets

Related Questions

Are Think Tank Bags Waterproof?

Think Tank bags aren't generally waterproof, although the SpeedTop 15 is water-resistant. This bag also comes with a waterproof nylon cover for protection against moisture and dust.

Can the SpeedTop 15 Serve as a Camera Holster?

While the SpeedTop series isn't a holster, you can use the SpeedTop 15 as a holster because of its rear panel and belt pass-through. You can easily get your camera and lens from the bag. The bag's padding also makes it comfortable to rest against the hips.

Does Think Tank Offer Refund or Warranty?

While I can vouch for the SpeedTop 15's durability, Think Tank offers a warranty, repair, refund, or product replacement if there's a defect in workmanship or materials. Note that there's no refund or warranty for user damage due to natural wear and tear and improper care.

Conclusion

With well-made features, you can safely store and transport your camera, lens, flash, and a few accessories in the SpeedTop 15. If you're looking for a compact yet versatile camera bag, the Think Tank SpeedTop 15 is the best solution for carrying your shooting gear for hours.
